Abstract
|
|
|
Thymic lesions are rarely encountered in persons past early life.
Authors present here nine cases of surgical diseases of the thymus gland which have been treated surgically at Severansce Hospital during last six years.
There were one case of thymolipoma, thymoma, thymic cyst and teratoma respectively. The thymoma was combined with hyperplasia and manifested myasthenia gravis. There were 5 cases of non-neopastic myasthenia gravis who underwent surgical excision of the thymus gland, four of whom showed hyperplasia of the thymus and one showed only focal hemorrhage in the thymus gland.
The age of the patient ranged 7 to 37 years and hyperplasia died of respiratory arrest on 3rd postoperative day, and the rest of them had favorable postoperative course and remission of the symptoms of myasthenia gravis in a week or later.
